What is Myopia?
Nearsightedness, or myopia, as it is medically termed, is a visual condition in which near objects are seen clearly, but distant objects do not come into proper focus.
Currently Myopia affects nearly 30% of the Canadian population. Myopia is a global concern, it is estimated that by 2050 50% of the population will be myopic/near sighted.
Myopia happens when the eyeball grows longer than average. When your eyeball is too long or the cornea has too much curvature, light entering the eye is not focused properly on the retina – the sensory layer – inside the eye. Myopia may be hereditary or it may occur spontaneously.
Myopia Management
Myopia management attempts to slow down, gain control of myopia progression, and reduce the risk for vision threatening conditions such as Cataracts and Glaucoma.
